I’ve always been a big fan of the Basketweave pattern in Segmenting; I think Tom Lohman’s Tubular pattern inspired this piece!! 21k plus pieces of Pernambuco, Bloodwood, Yellowheart, Wenge, Holly and Maple; all individually glued into a vase 18.5” tall, 14.5” at it’s widest point. This was built...
Horno shaped Chaco Passages with turquoise inlay. This piece is approximately 9 X 11½. Made from alligator juniper. The finely finished part of the piece is finished with Parfix 3408.
I made this simply because the war in Ukraine disturbs me. My thoughts were why don't the combatants simply lay down their arms and refuse to fight one another. The russian goblet took 3 hours of airbrushing to get the camo effect. The rifles were all hand carved. I've taken some flak over...
This was a backyard tree. It seems that urban walnuts typically have a wider colour variation than forest walnuts, at least in southern Ontario. Cut in July 2021, turned green the same month, re-turned February 2022. Five coats of wipe-on poly followed by Beall buff. 18.5 inches in diameter, 2...
This walnut bowl with carved feet is about 12 3/4" L x 10" w x 6" t. I also burned and blackened the rim. The wood has a lot of chatoyance that doesn't show that much in the picture. It is finished with Danish oil.
Bottom view with tendril-style bottle stopper. Inspired by mollusk form, texture, and color. Cherry wood, turned, carved, painted with acrylic. 15.5" high x 6.25" wide.
6”x3,5” “off-center” turned box with a wooden cat-lid that snaps in place. The “fur” texture was burned on to the lid with and the cat was then painted with acrylics. The bowl’s flowers were relief carved and painted.
A "garden" of Valentine "flowers" for my wife. They are not attached to the base so she can rearrange and play with them.
Inside-out, ring turned heart shape. Cherry. Black paint on interior, red dye (Chestnut Spirit Stain) on outside.
When I make ring-turned shapes (trees or angels), they...
Sparkler crosswrap pattern using silver and gunmetal metallic thread for the center. Bright yellow, gold, orange, red, and burgandy colorfast thread for the backround. All size A thread which is about .002 dia. Pen kit is a Ti gold long clicker.CA topcoat.
7”x3” Birdseye Maple box with 3 hand carved Hooded Warblers (Basswood)
Neither species is uncommon in our forests but one has to know where to look in order to find these beauties.
I made this for my daughters birthday. Wood is maple from my brother who had to take down the tree. Wood hats are a challenge and hopefully I got the fit right.
