"Rising From The Ashes"
This piece is made from Ambrosia Maple that was first laid up from three pieces, consisting of three inch thick slabs 9" x 16" and then turned on the lathe. Once the form was achieved, it was turned to various thicknesses to accommodate the carving that was to be done...
Here is my sister Lisa's completed Urn; it's fully loaded and ended up being a good size for her ashes. All kinds of woods including some dyed and stabilized wood from Malcolm Tibbetts. It's about a 12" diameter; the base is about 3" tall.
The form was mimicked off of a great piece by James...
Apple turned on 8 centers. The "tree" was bent laminated walnut with carved pieces added onto the base. Many many coats of sponge painted color with some irridescent paint added to the pyrography and base.
The white are almost done.... Last, the knights, then felt and weights.... Simple maple. First set through, having fun. Could probably finish each piece just a hair more.
Moderately spalted Black Oak. Smells of peaches when turned--very nice!
This wood came from a tree my neighbors felled around a month ago. I salvaged a fair number of logs, and have made a couple of bowls so far. This is from a section of limb. Turned fairly thin, and gradually thickens to the...
Completed 11/18/2022, Original block was 12% MC, and after roughing, it took 4 months to reach stabilization. 7 9/16" x 1 13/16", 5.1 oz, Sanded to 1500gt, Danish Oil Natural, Beall 3-step buffed. Sold same day listed for $185. Thanks to @William Rogers for the tip on the 1500gt micromesh, which...
Mushroom Box with blue green and teal color combination. A lot of textures and movement in the cap. The stem has a light coat of white, beige and teal golden paint.
These snowmen just got finished in time for the holidays. Thought I would try my own spin and make it my own style. They are done in sycamore, white cedar, basswood and maple and hats in walnut mahogany and elm. They are a happy bunch and hope they make you smile.
I had a small catalpa blank and a birdseye maple board for years. I have never done a two piece hollow form, my first attempt.
8 1/2” diameter, 3” tall
Sometimes I feel that my primary contribution on a piece is to just not mess it up. This is one of those. I recently made a trip to South TX to visit family and my nephew had gathered up a good load of mesquite for me to bring back. Each piece is twisted, odd shaped and requires a lot of time...
It’s called 3 grams because that’s all it weighs. It’s 1.2” tall and it is segmented. 382 pieces of wood the Greek key is segmented as well. It was commissioned by some one who collects miniatures for doll houses.
An alabaster box inspired by Cindy Drozda and Max Krimmel (3 3/4" D x 6 1/2" H, ~3/16" wall thickness). The alabaster is from the state of Colorado. The thin dividers and the base are mesquite. The finial and the segmented rim are desert ironwood. Mesquite was chosen for the project for not only...
