8.25 x 3.75 inches. Finished with Seal a Cell, Beall buffing, Doctor's wax/oil. Not sure what species of oak - my brother in law thought it might be blue oak. This was a tree on my in-laws' property in the Sierra foothills. After they died, it was brought down for fire safety. I gave this bowl...
I used two-part wood bleach on the Maple globe, it has been hollowed to less than 1/8” as measured with my homemade wire gage and about 2 ¼” in diameter. I decided I needed to check the thickness with more than my fingers as on my first attempt I made the inside larger than the outside. ☺ The...
It's 12" diameter, 2" deep. This was turned, then I painted the night sky background with blue gesso, laser-etched the skyline pattern I designed, turned the center bowl, hand-painted the burned area with extra-black India Ink, sanded back the painted windows by hand. This is a re-envisioned...
Looking to do something fun, it came to mind to make the cat with the Christmas lights tangled in its body, something that surely any cat owner can identify with. It's12 inch tall made with pterocarpus and the lights are in hard maple.
7.5″ diameter, 4.5″ tall. Finish is Osmo PolyX.
This piece has a nice bark inclusion running up the side. I might have left that alone, except that several other cracks developed during drying. So I fixed those cracks with pewas (butterfly inserts) and chose to bridge the bark inclusion so it...
This is a second shot showing the detail in the face and legs a bit more.
October 2021. Cherry Wood, Epoxy, and Silicone
Partially turned, carved and segmented
A 4,3 Torus knot. Turned as a torus and carved to final form. Quilted maple with epoxy and color fillers. Oak stand dyed black. 8.5" x 2.5", 13"H on stand
This is bitternut hickory. The 'flying saucer' shape is elevated on a pedestal and has a natural finial. Finished with Osmo polyx. About 10 inches diameter and 14 inches high including finial.
Redwood burl vessel. Turned wet and dried rapidly. This was a complete and utter joy to work with. Some wonderful movement. 5” tall by 10.5” long by 9.5” wide.
This is a 17 ½” Ash platter, it sits about 1 ½” tall and just under ½” thick. I dried this piece for a couple of years after roughing and a heavy coat of Anchorseal, thinking that it might help keep the feather from cracking. The foot is dovetailed on the inside so it could be hung in any...
