Working on a large Cherry bowl w/ ebonized exterior. Have a few more passes on the exterior and then I’ll hollow and finish. Going with Shellac over the ebonized exterior and Danish oil on the natural interior. It’s going to hold a fruit basket for the family that’s hosting us for Christmas dinner. Looks good Jeramiah, I like the ebonizing. Which technique did you use?
I sand with 180, then do a coat of black tea to amp up the tannin, followed by a coat of iron oxide solution. Once it’s dry I sand to 320, then do another round of tea and iron oxide. When that’s dry, I sand to 400 and then hollow it out.
