A finialed hollow form in Chesnut Oak and Madagascar Ebony. The HF was turned (but not hollowed) during a demonstration that I did during a basic woodturning course that I taught last month at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts. It was used as a prototype for a second piece.
Base Diameter...
The wood is Tasmanian Eucalyptus. The size of this piece is 5.5" dia x 9" tall. The finish is Danish oil and hand rubbed with fricton polish.
Wood is Black Walnut. The size is 3.75" dia x 7.5" tall. Finish is Danish oil and buffed with white diamond followed by carnauba wax. The Opening in the neck is 11/16" and the form is very well balanced.
This hollow form/vase is made from a single piece of old growth Spalted Curly Ambrosia Maple and segmented with Walnut veneer.
It is 6 3/8 inches tall by 4 1/4 inches in diameter.
The finish is shellac and wax.
Aprox. 6"x4"
Holly, Ebony, Antler, pyrography
Not every turning works out quite like you plan. This one spoiled in the drying process and the ants got to it.
Tasmanian Rose Myrtle and Macassar Ebony, size is 8" dia x 10" tall. Finished with Danish oil, hand rubbed with 0000 steel wool and buffed with white diamond and carnauba wax.
The woods used on this piece are Mexican Cocobolo and Macassar Ebony. The size is 3" dia x 7" tall. The finial and collar are one piece and removable. The piece was finished without any oil. Simply hand rubbed with 0000 steel wool after final sanding and buffed without any wax.
