This shape was adapted from Mark Baker's book; "Woodturning Projects: A Workshop Guide to Shapes". It was challenging to make the bottom until I finished that Longworth chuck I'd been working on.

Commission piece for a friend made from a blank he chose out of several. This came off the same limb that fell on my pastor's house. Still working on the pile!
Ancient Kauri ,beaded ,textured then gold ,copper ,and silver leaf applied piece by piece ,Allot of work but I feel it is worth the effort .This kauri was carbon dated 750 plus or minus 50 years by Waikato university

This Platter measures 550 dia ,A unique piece of Ancient Swamp Kauri .The high gum content meant I had to oil sand as it blocked up the paper .!0 Coats of lacquer.
I still wish I hadn't sold this piece as it was such a special bit of wood
This is an an ash platter which is about 12 inches square.
It sits on a one inch high by 3 inch diameter inverse tapered foot (not visible in this view).
This piece was created from a highly spalted piece of maple. It measures 14" w by 3" h and was made for use as a fruit bowl. It is slightly deeper than a platter but shallower than a bowl of this size. Mahoney's Walnut Oil finish was used as this piece is intended for food use...
