12.5 inch maple platter with acrylic paint. I had a hard time thinking of a title for this platter. I finally came up with a title that I like. Anthesis is the period during which a flower is fully open and functional.
This walnut was sawn in 1990 and then air dried for 31 years. I call it a platter, some a shallow bowl. It is 23.5 inches in diameter by 2.5 inches high. The long period of air drying produced very rich, chocolate brown colours. It is finished with 8 thin coats of wipe-on poly.
This 18" platter started out as a waste piece from a larger blank but I just couldn't let it go. I really loved the grain patterns and when it cracked I used epoxy as a filler. The finish is tung oil.
