This guy is about 7" dia. with a pierced rim. The edge of the rim is friction burned.

This black cherry bowl is approx. 9" in diameter and was turned to about 3/32". It was then pierced to the point that it became spring-like when compressed. Sorry for the crummy picture, I hadn't gotten a decent camera at this point.
