A nesting pair of Northern Cardinals and their nest in a cherry tree. Spalted sugar maple. 5.5 inches high x 3 inches diameter Pyrographic detail with piercing.
Outside finish: water-based polyurethane
Inside finish: Jacquard duo blue green pigment in water-based polyurethane.
This thin wall pierced claro flame vessel is probably the only dark colored wood piercing you will ever see me attempt. It is hard to get any contrast between pyrographed illustration and black walnut. The inside was airbrushed with a gold and then transulcent red airbrush paint. One set of...
Decided to make another pierced platter. I forgot how difficult it was to pierce 1/8” thickness. Normally I would pierce 1/16”+, but in order to safely handle I do 1/8”.
Cherry wood 14” diameter. C&C
A footed teapot turned thin from a single piece of maple, carved, pierced, pyro-textured and colored with airbrushed interference paint. The lid, two cups and saucers all made in the same manner. The teapot measures 4-1/2" x 7" x 4".
Thank you for looking!
5-3/4" x 1-3/4". Pierced with a Dremel and engraving bits. Finished with Seal-A-Cell. The bottom was buffified with white diamond and wax. The entire bowl is one piece (no lid).
This Sycamore Ornament has Walnut finials. It won 1st place in our local, South Kansas Woodturners, club contest for both the lightest and the best looking. It measures about 2 1/2" w x 5" h and has a wall thickness ranging from .030 to .050. The design is comprised of the word, NOEL...
Maple Globe/Walnut Finials, Pierced with a Random Design, 2 x 6 h.
I like to keep the piercing toward the center 2/3 of my ornament globes. I think the solid portion of the globe on the top and bottom make a nice frame for the random piercing.
I like feedback so all comments and...
I have to confess I very much enjoy making these pieces, it is a thrill to watch the piece progress from chainsawing in the field to final airbrushing, not to mention everything in between. Even though a good deal of patience is required. This piece has a copper colour with an over spray of a...
Mulberry. 3.25" wide by 4.75" tall.
This is a rustic piece, as opposed to Mulberry Lace's delicate appearance. I turned the vessel to about .25" thick.
This pieced was worked, for the majority of the detailing, live on my webcam. People from all over the planet watched me...
Yew (Domestic - very local; from neighbor's yard), vintage German glass button
Dimensions: 5.375"w x 4.75"h 1/16" wall thickness
Natural edge thin-walled vessel with pierced sapwood border. Hand sanded, airbrushed, about 10 coats of lacquer. Vintage German glass button...
This is one of those pieces that took WAY too long - Pierced thin wall walnut vase, the piercings are filled with multiple layers of epoxy. Got about 90% finished and it flew off the lathe, requiring a major overhaul. Any and all comments welcome.
Started as a demo for my woodworkers club round robin night. Piece is 4.5"h, 4.5"w. Wall thickness is 1/16" or less. Natural edge. Pierced sapwood border.
This shot shows the great grain in the bottom and how translucent the piece is. I love working with mulberry.
