This was out of a hunk of somewhat punky maple burl, that developed a nice spalting. A bit soft, but it came out. Finished with shellac sealer, then several hand applied coats of Resisthane. About 6" in diameter and 5" high
I turned this originally about a month ago. Let it dry and just hated it. So, I put it back on the lathe with a glue block and completely reshaped it. I mistakenly picked up some Walnut Danish oil, so I used it here. Polished with Beall system. Green Curly Maple.
Big Leaf Maple, 5.5”d x 6.25”h
A fellow club member responded to an ad for free firewood and came back with two pickup truck loads of super curly maple. He was kind enough to drop off several chunks in my driveway while I was at work.
This is a hollow form of a unknown species of wood that is rotting so there are many holes. About 9 inches wide and 4 inches tall. Comments and critiques.
Thanks,
Sebastian
This Spalted Oak Hollow Vessel is turned to a 1/4” wall thickness and has an African Blackwood pedestal, collar, and removable finial. The Hollowform is finished with gloss lacquer while the Blackwood parts are simply polished. This piece is about ten inches tall.
