Coolibah Burl. Approx. 11" x 8" x 7/8" tall. Thickness about 1/8". I wanted something different for a stand so I used a scrap piece of burl, sanded it flat and cut a slot with the BS. Finish is wipe on gel poly and Beall buffed.
My first box in this wood. Previously I had turned pens and used it in flatwork boxes. This piece has been drying for several years and hopefully will not move as much as some people have suggested. Size is 3" tall and 3 3/4" in diameter.
7" diameter x 4-1/2" tall. Walls about 3/16". Came home from our Saturday Club meeting entused and ready to turn and this is what I ended up with. Finish is wipe on gel poly and beall buffed.
There was some punk / bark inclusion that I decided to leave, I am really beginning to like inclusions in wet wood turnings.
This bowl is 5 1/2 inches in diameter and 3 1/8 inches high.
Finished with olive oil and bee's wax.
As always, questions, comments and/or critique invited.
These were turned from the "scraps" of the biggest Apple burl i have ever seen (about 200 pounds).
They are still drying, but I like the way they look now.
Olive oil & bees wax finish.
The natural edge piece is 3 3/8 inches across by 1 3/8 inches high.
Pedistal bowl is 3 inches...
Manzanita burl hollow form. 12" diameter by 7" tall. Voids painted black before finish turning, coat of Antique oil then several coats of lacquer.
As soon as I got the outside of this bowl shaped and stopped the lathe, I realized that what I had was Humpty Dumpty, as reassembled by a committee. Size is 18.5" x 8" deep. Sugar Maple burl with bark inclusions swirling throughout.
The box is a fairly early turning for me. I got really LUCKY with the Pagoda-like finial (I was trying for 3 steps, this was all I could get).
Tre-wax finish.
The box is 3 1/8 inches in diameter by 4 3/4 inches high.
