I call this "Neighbors" because my stupid neighbor decided that every tree on his property had to go. I heard the chainsaws and paid off the landscapers to bring me the trunk with the burl and the main crotch.

mallee burl ,this is what I do with the off cuts .
After a days turning of these I just have fun making them into sets .Amazing how pieces change when placed in a differnt set
( bowls turned on the one branch 24 inches high plus the base that was added latter .A bit of a balancing act
But allot of fun to make .

Red Mallee Burl ,500mm long sits on 3 feet ,finished with 10 coats of Danish oil and buffed .
A special piece of timber I just love turning this stuff .

this is my latest piece, turned and carved from boxwood root burl. ~30*20*12cm (12*8*5inches) from spikes to spikes.
the spikes were carved in the original roots that came out of the burl ball.
the main body has been lightly sandblasted to increase the organic look.
