Is the resolution better than the native screen-shot feature of Windows? I rarely use that for text capture because of the resolution problem. I would need to use Chrome for FireShot I guess, since Windows 10 doesn't accept plug-ins/extensions. I'm soon to upgrade my laptop to 10, already took care of my husband's PC and tablet computer.
 
Windows Print Screen feature is limited to just what you can see on your monitor. It does not print out an entire web page So if you wanted to print out an entire message thread, you'd have to do multiple print-screens. FireShot allows you to save the entire web page, whether it's contained on a single screen or requires scrolling.

Additionally, FireShot allows you to save your screen grab as an image (.png for example) or as a .pdf, etc.

Lastly, it is a browser extension that supports multiple web browsers and works on multiple operating systems (Mac and Windows).

I whole-heartedly recommend you take a look. It's free and easy to install and remove in your browser. Give it a shot and see if it helps you do what you are looking to do.

I got a photo on my thread about the titan chuck. it was 917 kb and it worked! now I just have to figure out how to downsize other photos. a computer expert, I am not...

What OS are you using?
 
Perhaps Picasa Will work, since it's a Google product and probably they've integrated it into the OS. But I'm not sure
 
sorry chrome is my browser, I'm using windows 10. It's a school computer so it can't handle a whole lot. I have a tablet that runs jellybean I think that has a couple photo editing programs on it.

Chris, I use a free editing program called paint.net (that is not a web site). If you install that on your computer, I'm glad to help you with how to use it. Start a "conversation" if you want to do this and I can check if it works with Windows 10 and send you the download info.
 
I don't know if it's my outdated Safari browser (10.7.5) or a bug with the new forum. Example, … if I go to the Main Forum, all unread posts/comments/replies are in Bold Print. After I read them and use the 'back button' to return to the Main Forum I would assume that the the Post would no longer be in bold print. But it is still in bold print! On topics where there have been a lot of comments/posts the newest comments sometimes have evolved (strayed) into other subject matter that has little to do with the title of the original post. This confuses me and many times I'll re-click the same title over again. Is it just me and/or my browser??? 🙁
One feature that I think is really great…..when one clicks on the Bold Topic you are taken directly to the newest posts. 🙂🙂🙂

When you use the back button, the page you went back to is not refreshed, so it would still be in bold.

As far as comments straying from the original post, that's normal, not the browser. We sometimes have a hard time staying on point

Cute kitten alert! I hope she's OK.

Online forums somewhat reflect real life. It would be hard to imagine a group of friends having a discussion at a restaurant where the conversation does NOT evolve. I belong to a bunch of forums and any long thread does drift. We might frown on the opening post if it is about recipes for cooking eggplant (maybe it's only because I hate eggplant). We definitely frown on spammers.

A comment came up that we needed an off topic forum. Years ago we had one and it went way too far and we axed it. And actually when the topic runs off, we USUALLY just leave it and it finds its way back . When it doesn't , we prune

Soooo, …… I guess that's what the Main Forum button at the bottom of the page is for? 😉 Thanks! I just never noticed it before.

I realize that….keeps things interesting, just like face-to-face conversations! But, when I was using the 'back button' and I returned to all the Bold topics, many times I would click on the topic I was just reading (sometimes more than once!) ….duh! 😀 Thanks Steve.
 
trying to add photo file to post....ended up with 2 photos of same file and the other file is a link........went back with edit....looked ok .....any ideas???????

It was in the sixth grade when eggplant and I parted company. Somebody brought an eggplant casserole to a covered dish dinner. It tasted and looked OK on the way down. Changed my mind on the way up. 🙁

Yep! You had three entries of the same image ... two full size and one thumbnail size. I can't tell you how you did it, but when things turn into a mess, you might find it easier to just delete all the images and start over on adding images rather than trying to fix things. If you feel comfortable using the BB code editor that may be the the easier way to remove unwanted garbage. The WYSIWYG editor can be a bit ambiguous in situations like this. At least that was my impression when I took a look at both editors.

Well we do have some unenlightened folks here who think that the best use for mesquite is to burn it. We can overlook that transgression if if the fire is in a pit cooking a brisket. Since it is mostly considered a nuisance by ranchers that is actually good news for woodturners who are happy to help the ranchers get rid of those terrible nuisance trees.

Only for the initial searing to seal in the juices. After that we put a parasol over it to keep it from getting too hot and burning. 😀

Back ON topic: saved text is staying in system WAY too long! I started a reply 3 days ago that I realized wouldn't be helpful, so I deleted it and went to another thread. However, the draft had already been saved by system. Every time I came back to this thread, that text was hanging out in the text box. Seems pretty crazy.

I have noticed the same thing. I cannot find a cancel button once I type something.

They only way I have found to get rid of the typed text is to cut it from the reply box and hit the post reply for the blank reply box.
Otherwise it seems to stay in the box.

Need a cancel button.

Earlier, folks were saying how much they liked the feature that they could start a post and come back later to finish it ... sometimes on a different device. This isn't unique to Xenforo ... vBulletin also worked that way ... sort of, except it seemed to get confused and concatenate pending posts on different sub-forums. However, I have experienced the same thing with pending posts that won't go away until I jump through all sorts of hoops ... and it is vexing.

It was set to be saved for 24 hours and I lowered that to 6.
There is no way to see saved drafts

Thanks, I didn't know that you could set the time-out period. But ... but ... but, I can see saved drafts ... see the screen shot below ... it shows up as grayed out text in the editor box ... or, are you talking about something else?

What I was looking for was a button or menu item that allows you to see the saved draft.
It will show up in your reply box next login or next reply.
 
I get the impression that the Xenforo developers don't quite appreciate the subtle nuances of why a Cancel button would be a good feature ... in fact, there was once a cancel button and now there isn't.

I believe that there may be a third party add-on to fix this issue. It seems clear that the Xenforo developers don't quite grasp the situation.
 
OK, I tried the Xenforo solution. I multi-quoted some posts and added some text ... see screenshot below. I waited a few seconds until I saw "Draft Saved" and then I deleted the text using CTRL-A to highlight all followed by hitting the DELETE key. Next I closed the browser (I also repeated this by just navigating away from the page and not closing the browser). Then I came back to this page and as we already know, the "undead" deleted text is back to haunt us once again.
