Wood: Swamp Matai

The swamp Matai was probably buried in a swamp after the Taupo eruption, which was about 1800 years ago. The wood isn't the best to work because it is very brittle and smells like a swamp.

Size = 22"wide by 12" high. A large rare burl of choke cherry with a figure of Jesus weeping inside. This is a fine wood to turn and was a fun project. Water white lacquer hand rubbed with wax finish.

Turned on an eccentric chuck adapter of my design and construction, which bolts to a 4-jaw scroll chuck.
