This was a beautiful chunk and it had a flat that I didn't want to remove, as it would have taken out most of the form, so I worked it into the shape. I was pretty happy with the result and was sad that it found a new home before I had a chance to take some good photos.
My most recent series of flower goblets. From left to right the flowers are tan oak, eucalyptus, apple. The stems were turned and carved from bay. Dye and acrylic paints used for the finishes.

I needed a base to mount my carving on, so I design this. It is in two pieces. The top rotates, powered by a music box movement.The bottom section is 8" in diameter.
A simple vessel in Wormy Chestnut Oak. This piece shows the intricate medullary ray patterns typical of the oak family.

The foot and leaf are oak, the stem and cup are ash. Foot and leaf were turned and carved. Stem and cup turned and inserted.
