This 18" platter started out as a waste piece from a larger blank but I just couldn't let it go. I really loved the grain patterns and when it cracked I used epoxy as a filler. The finish is tung oil.
Navajo ceremonial basket design. The symbol is also used to represent Spider Woman, the first Navajo deity. The basket is twelve inches in diameter and the wood is maple. Pyrography and ink were used to create the basket illusion. Donated to SWAT 2019 symposium and selected as an auction item.
Navajo Wedding Basket illusion is 12⅝ inch diameter maple. The wedding basket is probably the most well known of all the various Native American basket designs. This piece will be part of the SWAT 2-for-1 drawing coming up next month.
Navajo Wedding Basket Illusion, 14½ inches diameter, 2¾ inches high, maple, beaded, burned, and colored in the style of the traditional wedding/celebration baskets. The wood is thin enough that bright light can shine through between the rows of beads. This piece was donated to the Woodturners of...

The burl is about 20 " at the widest point. My lathe has a 16 " swing.
I am really...
I was browsing through another forum that I frequent and found this video. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Is anyone familiar with the gentleman who made the video?

A natural-edge vessel turned from a Big Leaf Maple burl cap with bleached accent rings. The base posts were turned out of Madagascar Ebony and the base from African Mahogany. "Atariak" is Basque for "Portals".

From "Symbols of Person, Series 1", this is "Passion." 5 1/2 in. diameter x 1 in. depth, ogee bowl, made from maple burl. Pyrographized, and gilded with 24k gold.
Though better seen in person then in the photo, the pyro- work is done in what I call "directional...
This segmented ball is about 5 1/2 inches in diameter and has 416 pieces. All the rings were tapered at one end before I glued them together. The base is carved out of Wenge.
