Ash, burned and wire brushed, with acrylic paints, 5 1/2” x 5” x 6 1/2”.
My original concept was a small winged bowl with the rim sloping down and transitioning into feet. Sitting flat on the table, the piece looked like it needed a bit more, so I decided to stand it at an angle on a single...
I wanted to create a tribute to the Ukrainian people and the battle against the Russians I chose the blue and yellow for their flag colors and the V motif for their ultimate victory over the Russians. While turning the piece I encountered an unseen bark inclusion which I was able to deal with...
I spent many hours on this and it is so far my finest piece of work. It is southern magnolia and the leaves were templated from ones picked off a magnolia in my yard. The finish is oil based urethane and artist acrylic paint.
Here is a simple hollow form. It's turned from some unremarkable Gum. So, I dyed it black cherry. The fluting is carved with hand chisels. Finish is wipe on poly. It's about 7" diameter, 4" high.
Antler Box.
Cherry wood. Turned, carved, acrylics. 2”diameter, 4” tall.
Inspired by an antler shed lying about my workspace. My focus was to convey the unique texture and color of the antler while having a bit of fun with the form.

I turned this originally about a month ago. Let it dry and just hated it. So, I put it back on the lathe with a glue block and completely reshaped it. I mistakenly picked up some Walnut Danish oil, so I used it here. Polished with Beall system. Green Curly Maple.
This is for a challenge at our local turning club (wntx.org). But instead of one egg, I thought it would be cool to nest two eggs like a prize egg. All are from pear carved and textured. Color is with acrylic paint fanned brushed over black ink and finished with clear matt enamel.
Cherry. Turned, carved, burn textured, with acrylics. 3 3/4” high x 4 1/2” diameter.
Inspiration came from a mix of flora and fauna motifs without trying to make the piece be anything specific.

Cherry wood. Turned, carved, burn-textured, acrylic paints. 4 1/2" diameter, 6" long.
I've been enjoying the recent images captured by the James Webb telescope, and so I tilted this piece in a way that it may consider the horizon and the heavens.
