Luminous Biscuits

Luminous Biscuits

Black Oak bowl, in the shape of a traditional calabash w/ small added foot. I burned rectangles (biscuits) on the surface, carved the rim, and then dry brushed with acrylics. After dry brushing, I re-burned the biscuit borders to make them pop. Interior left natural, sanded to 400g, and finished with hemp oil. Exterior finished with rattle lacquer. All in all, a fun project! 7"d x 2.75"h. Additional views in the comments.
What a creative project! Awesome Michael!! I know you haven’t been turning all that long. Do you sell your work, or are you still just exploring? Can’t wait to see where you take your creativity in the future.

Looks good enough to eat! :p
Ha! They might be radioactive though. What’s the Spider-Man equivalent for eating radioactive biscuits? Hmm..

I cant believe you didnt segment it, glue those biscuits together :)
Gosh, next time! :p It actually gave me some ideas for a fun follow-up project.

Hey Michael, what kind of torch did you use to get such a precise burning?
Hi Nick. I used a spearpoint woodburning pen from razor tip. Originally I tried to use a fine ballpoint, but couldn’t get straight lines with the porous grains. The spearpoint let me drag the lines and still keep them crisp.

How much of that hemp oil did you smoke during the process Michael??
Hahaha, just enough to not screw it up! Kidding, kidding.

Thanks Lou! I haven’t really sold anything yet, but am slowing moving toward that. My rule when I started was to just practice for the first year and not sell anything. Glad I did, because looking back at the early stuff I see the flaws that I didn’t notice at the time. It’s a real interesting reflection!
