Fragmented Recovery

Black Cherry bowl and White Oak base. This was my second big project during my foot recovery (alongside the cherry bowl I previously posted), and was also my submission for the SWT deconstruct/construct challenge. I am a little out of my element there, but this was a fun way to contribute. I pyro-textured the interior of a natural edge bowl, cut it apart with a coping saw and a scrollsaw, pyro-textured the edges of the pieces, and then re-assembled via copper wire. The base is carved, burned, pyro textured, and sanded. 6" x 6.75" x 4.5".
This was a fun project to watch come together and an excellent follow along project on the SWT site. The idea was to get outside your comfort zone which Michael did nicely!! The use of the sap wood really accentuates the rebuild as does the form Michael chose to use. It was a great idea to use for a segmented piece! The base continues to grow on me every time I look at this beauty! Well done Michael!!

A fantastic looking piece, Michael. I was never good at jig-saw puzzles. Still using up your supply of copper wire? :) A tedious process but a great effect. I assume the size given is just the bowl. BTW, nice photo!

Thank you for the kind words Vince, Russ, Peter, and Tom!

The challenge was awesome. Can't wait for the next one! I made a couple of different bases today, but I’m not crazy about them. But, I haven't made a simple block yet, which might work out well. This has been interesting. I think I might make a few more and write a thread about it once I figure it out. Good stuff.

Ha! That made me laugh. I actual went out and bought another spool. Can't stop myself. The size is for the overall piece, base plus bowl. Just a little bowl, 3.5" tall on its own. And thanks, re. the photo! Trying to improve, little by little. I have a new background coming (hopefully) later today.

Once again I’m blown away with your imagination, creativity and craftsmanship.
The time spent is immaterial, especially when the outcome is this good.
Bravo!

Marc, those are some kind words. Thank you very much. You’re right about time spent. Sometimes you never know until the end. I told my wife during the throes of this project, “I think it will end up being interesting, but I hope it’s also good”. I’m glad some folks like it :)
