I love this Chinaberry and only have a few more pieces left to turn. I expect it to darken a bit but it is gorgeous when freshly cut. This blank was not quite cut from a crotch piece but just above the fork and the piece had a very flat side where the two branches were almost grown together. I think the compressed grain is one of the reasons the wood has so much chatoyance. I had a little tearout where the grain was so figured.
Al, It is a beautifully executed bowl. However I must admit that it brings to mind many painful memories of walking under the chinaberry tree in the backyard of my Houston home in 1978. The memories are very deeply embedded as were the seed pods.
