Wood - SE North Carolina

Join the local AAW woodturning club. The members will be able to help you best.
Most clubs have raffles at meetings. Lots of wood changes hands.
If you hear a chainsaw running some morning in your neighborhood......go find it. Tons of free wood out there.

Get yourself a chainsaw and drive around the neighborhoods - storms can be your best friend.
Make the arborists and tree-cutters your friend - a few well place bowls with your phone number on the bottom can bring calls.
Also, find out when bulk-trash pickup is scheduled in various areas - people try to schedule accordingly.
If I'm not mistaken, walnut, cherry, maple plus others are common.
Also, there is probably a firewood lot in the area - tree cutters will dump to avoid driving longer distances to municipal dumps.

Quick bing search for North Carolina lumber mill, find this on first page: https://www.turnbulllumber.com/species/ appears to be somewhat near you? I know Wood by Wright also has a website that details lumber sources (he has a youtube channel, and links to that from his pages) Maybe that'd be a place to start? Other than that, probably have as mentioned, turner's clubs in the area (or woodworker clubs?) and of course there's always the wood suppliers online - many specialty blanks, turning blanks, and even rough turned bowls if that interests you..

Got Wood or turningblanks.net is is Donalds, SC. They're good guys and have an extensive variety of domestic and exotic woods, all for turners, and have a sale a couple times a year. Is that anywhere nearby?
