I bought some jaws on the used market was trying to figure out if these jaws are from vicmarc or not? They fit my vm120 but when I go to vicmarc website the log nose jaw and pin jaws look different. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Kurt20250328_192711.jpg

I have a set of Nova jaws that look *exactly* like that , could they be Nova?

Newer version on the right, older ones on the left. The very early chucks also tightened in the opposite direction and had slightly different inserts

I think the pic is backwards.
As posted, newer ones on left.

More importantly, since you have both, are the new one better enough to purchase when I already have the old ones? Packard has the new for $81. (OOPS! they are $121.)

Thanks I was thinking that was the newer version of these.
As pointed out, I mislabeled the photo. The darker-colored jaws on the left are the new style.

I bought the new ones after already owning the old style because I wanted that internal dovetail. It’s perfect for tenons about 1” diameter, and they get a lot of use making small bowls in my shop. The bearing surface is quite small because it’s interrupted by the screw access holes, and consequently the jaws can leave marks even on a perfectly sized tenon if the chuck is overtightened. With appropriate tightening it usually isn’t an issue.

The outside shape and dimensions of both sets are identical as far as I can tell. If you only use them for expanding into a recess, the old style are just as good, or possibly superior due to having a much heavier cross-section.

Those are what I use when sanding my warped bowls. If you wiggle the blank around enough, you can get good 4 point contact and since you are sanding, you don't need the grip that you need for turning. I did get a set for my bigger chuck, and one jaw did not fit up tight.

I haven't seen that style in their catalogue. They are also similar to the Axminster O'Donell jaws.
I don't think Nova makes them any more, or changed their design... Any case, I have a set of jaws just like that and they mount perfectly to my nova chucks But like you I looked to see what they were actually used for (besides the obvious) to see if I could find additional use for them, but had no luck locating them in Nova catalog and little if any info on utilizing them.
