This Jet JWL-1221VS looks like a good deal, thoughts?

As I mentioned in the Introduction forum, my Harbor Freight motor gave out and it would cost too much to fix to make it a viable option over getting another low end lathe. So until I can save up for a “go big or go home” model lathe, I thought I would beat the bushes in the used listings or look for a new low end midi to tide me over for a couple of years.

I have found a few new midis that might work fine, but this Jet listing for $300 is only an hour away. I have come to recognize Jet for a solid lathe, so I sent this guy a few messages - he has yet to respond. I asked for pictures inside the headstock and the motor plate.

The claim is it has only been used a few times and it works as it should. I see a bit of top rust on the tail stock and the bed but that’s an easy fix if it is just cosmetic.

The tool rest shaft is small I think 5/8”. Not a fan of the stock rest I can order a 5/8” shaft for my current Nova modular setup. 1”x8 TPI is what HF used so my chuck is good to go.

So what do you think, $300 for this assuming it is as good as claimed?

If you want a cheap new option, the harbor freight midi lathe isn't bad (Bauer 14x20). I have had it for nearly a year now and no big complaints. You might bog down the motor if your tool is dull and you take too big of a cut. Otherwise it has been great. I had a 20% off coupon so with the 1 year extended warranty it was about $550 including tax.

All my turnings so far have been done on a small jet machine. Except for a few loose bolts have had no issues. Bought mine new for 999.
