No finish is good on those. The wood is naturally oily and will sand and polish up to just about as much gloss as you care to take it to. Of course it's not very protected if you plan to use it but it will certainly look nice. I still use lacquer on my hand mirrors but then they aren't subjected to the kind of use a bowl comes under.
How about shellac?

How will the bowl be used? Treen ware, display on a shelf or table, contain popcorn or nuts or candy? Shellac can be softened by lots of different things that come in contact with it.

You could go with no finish, sanding to whatever sheen you want, or sand to 1000+ and use a Beaal buffing system.
The wood is oily, so most finishes don't work well. You could put a sealer coat of 50/50 lacquer/thinner to help seal the pours first though with good results. May have to wipe it with acetone first to get better adhesion
