I have the original easy rougher but recently lost the screw. Does anyone Know the specs on the screw so I can get a replacement.

Ron Campbell at AZ Carbide has a cross reference chart on his site, look under Resources. Looks like the full size is 8-32 and the mid is 4-40, but I don’t know if EWT ever changed sizes…probably not, so consider that comment a disclaimer.

Not sure if this is till current ... got it a couple of years ago from EWT:

Mini/Mid/Detailers & All Hollowers Except Mid:
-- Small Wrench 1/16"
-- Screw 4-40 x 5/16"

Full/Pro/Rougher/Finisher:
-- Screw 8-32 x 3/8"
-- Large Wrench 3/32"

Exception (Mid Hollower):
-- Small Wrench 1/16"
-- Screw 4-40 x 1/4"

thanks for the quick response, much appreciated. I will bring the tool with me to the hardware supply and buy a few extra. I also have the full size finisher and will get some of those as well.

Not sure yet tools.are.the same but most carbide cutters have special.screws with a taper that matches the taper in the insert. If you use the wrong screw you can crack the carbide.

EWT might possibly give you a replacement especially if you order some replacement cutters. It doesn't hurt to ask. As far as finding a replacement at a hardware store is concerned, I doubt it. The heads on the carbide insert screws are specialty items designed for a particular range of inserts. I have carbide-tipped tools from Hunter, EWT, Rolly Munro, and Rockler and they are all different. As John said, if you use the wrong screw you might crack the carbide and if not that, you might not be able to lock it down well enough to keep it from shifting around.

Most, if not all, replacement cutters I've bought for the Easy Wood Tools I own, come with a screw. Just buying a new cutter, which you will eventually need anyway, should give you the screw you need.

Joe,

I tend to keep the old screws when I install a replacement cutter even though I get a new screw with the cutter. I have at least 1 screw for the full-size rougher; the Ci1 cutter. I don't know whether that size is the correct one for you since you indicated it was an "original" Easy Rougher. I think it's unlike that Easy Wood changes much over time though. Let me know if you need it. I messaged you also.
