I seem to go through shop vac bags (rigid 16 gallon) before they are half full, they rip somewhere defeating the purpose of keeping the round filter clean. Anyone know of a better alternative?

John, I have one of my shop vacs that I use my sander with. I put the small Dust Deputy on that vac and even after 5 years there is minimal sawdust in the bag. However it makes for a much bulkier system.

I second the Dust Deputy. I'm using the 2.5 Dust Deputy for sanding and general clean up. Hardly a bit of anything in the shop vac. I built a simple vertical cart with the shop vac on the bottom and the deputy above it.

If all you're collecting is wood shavings, ie ribbons and chips and big 'saw dust', maybe one of the flat paper filters and collecting the material in the can would work adequately for you. The bags make a huge difference for fine sawdust and sheetrock dust, but for big stuff, maybe not needed.

I've used the Veva vacuum bags in my Shop-Vacs for several years. I tend to fill them to the point that they are hard to remove and have not had a leakage or breaking problem. Cheaper than the offerings at the big box stores. Amazon has them.

+1 on this. I haven't emptied either my shop vac or dust collector in ages. Both have a dust deputy cyclone in front so almost nothing gets to them, and the cyclone bucket and barrel are easy to empty straight into a trash bag.
