Sharpening a skew on the Kodiak system

Does anyone else utilize this system? For gouges it seems good, but with the platform only running from 90 degrees (flat) to 30 degrees, the lowest included angle you can get is 60 degrees before trying to grind on the side of your wheels with their jigs. Which I’m not sure my 1 3/8 skew chisel can utilize…hoping someone has this system and can sing it’s praises/explain my errors.

Havent used it yet, but you are aware that if the platform is moved further away from the wheel (obviously there will be a bit of overhang, so careful with that) the angle will change as the tool will have to move further up the wheel before making contact... right? That is probably what I would do if it was my issue to solve..

Yeah, that’s the route I’ll take for now. I’ll make some spacing collars with respect to the preset angles

Ken Rizza suggests using the side of the CBN wheel for skews, which does not put a concave edge.
I have this complete Kodiak system, fairly newly installed, have not tried yet to sharpen my 1 3/8" Lacer Skew and other skews.
If as you say is true, that would be a huge negative. I always hone my skews, so the concave edge as provided by sharpening on the edge of the wheel.

I’ve not used the Kodiac platform, but the pics on the website show the platform has angles 60 to 0 deg printed on it, indicating the platform can be moved to vertical.

Except that this is in reference to being perpendicular to the wheel. The 0 degrees is a 90 degree grind, the 60 degree mark is a 30 degree grind

???? Try to explain this again. Link below to be sure we are talking about the same thing. This pic shows the platform to be at ~45 deg, by # and by visual. Have you mounted it differently?

Think he was referring to your prior post - where you say platform can be moved to "vertical" , I think you meant Horizontal...

From Vertical, he is correct in that 60 degree mark would be a 30 degree grind (if measured from vertical) - Platform settings are referenced to HORIZONTAL , so at 0 degrees, your bevel angle is 90 degrees , at 60 degree setting, your bevel would be a 30 degree angle (from vertical)

It actually gives you a grind more than 30 degrees. Because the wheel slopes away from the platform the angles marked are not what is produced by the wheel. The angles market are what you get if you set an angle gauge on the platform. If you set it to the 40 degree setting you actually get 43 degrees. This was the same with the Roborest. I added extra holes in my Kodiak rest to give me every 5 degrees that are not already indexed. I was going to post a photo but our power is off and for some reason my phone won't show all the photos. We'll had to jump through hoops to get it to work.

“I see now” said the blind man. Well, that is ass backwards. I had been considering this grinding platform but since I would not be able to grind a skew (on the wheel OD) it wont work for me. It needs to grind at least a 20 deg bevel on a tool, my current platform does.
