Hi All,

I like to make these self closing hollow forms. You can't use them for anything. You cant eat from them, you can't put fruit in it, there is no pepper coming out. It is just that they are lovely to see... That's enough. I did a little tour in the UK a few years ago with this self closing hollow form...
Anyway, Lizz and I made a new video about the S.C.H.F.... And although it doesn't end well I am quite happy with it... Hope you have fun looking at it. The next video will be about a making a canteen... Will be ready in a week or so...

Great video, thank you! The movement of wood as it dries fascinates me. I will have to try that project sometime. Drilling thru the side to eject shavings is brilliant!

I recently cored a piece of walnut. (no Mastadon, I used my Woodcut) The largest core was too thin to let dry, so I finished it green. I made a rounded over rim, that in hindsight, didn't allow for movement. A larges split opened up about 5mm on each side. It was wet, so I hadn't spent time sanding it. I liked the shape, but was disapointed with the cracks, so I set it aside thinking it was ruined.

As it dried, the cracks closed up again. One side was misaligned a bit, but with some gentle persuasion, I was able to nearly flush it up as I glued it. Sanded and finished, it's looking pretty nice.
