Well, if the disc or foam is coming loose, to me, that is a good sign that it is worn out. Like Donna said, slow sanding speed, and slow lathe speed for sanding. To that I would add very light pressure. Getting the abrasives to cut is an experience. If you are spinning too fast, the abrasives don't get a chance to dig in and cut. If you are pushing too hard, and by that I mean that even the weight of the drill could be too much, then you generate heat, and that will make the glue holding the velcro or foam on come loose. I do have Barge Cement, which is a rubber cement, on hand, but as I said, if things are coming loose, time to get rid of it. For 'interface' pads, which are cheaper than the mandrill they go on, I prefer the ones from VinceswoodNwonders. I use firm discs up to 180 or 220, and love the one he has that has the 1/4 round profile on the edge. I use medium pads up to 400. If I go over that, I go to the soft pads.
