I see a lot of turners sandblasting there work.

1. What type of sandblast equipment are you using. Is it commercial sandblast equipment or harbour freight cheap models.

2. And sand blast medium? I’d like to know what you have been using so I can decide what to look for.

3. And does the sand blasting medium get stuck in the wood? Is there a cleaning process after the blasting is done?

The December 2016 AAW journal published my article on Sand carving. I list the materials

The big harbor freight cabinet works well many woodturners use it. The desk top is ok for small turnings I use it for demos.

Course ground glass

Course ground glass does not stick to wood. It might get lodge in a crack.
I use compressed air to blow dust off the pieces after blasting.

There are two main types of sandblasting
1 blasting the whole piece to reveal grain lines- see Bill Lucien spectacular skeleton bowls
Pascal Oudet’s amazing oak lace pieces.

2. sandcarving which I describe in the article. Resist is used to create images.
here are the handouts I use in demos
