Welcome Robert! Good for you for giving away things - my kind of guy! I know a few who turn pens and one guy keeps EVERYTHING he makes in stacks of display boxes. He's missing out on the joy!

Sorry you have a real job. (kidding!) I've been retired for almost 20 years, been turning close to 25 years, teach, demos, etc - all for the joy of it. I can admire pens but have no useful input - last pen I turned was over 10 years ago when someone wanted to give some as presents to teachers. My only pen experience was with solid wood, cocobolo, pink ivory, spalted beech, kingwood, etc.

I love Colorado - when not there for work (software), I mostly spent time west of Denver, visiting friends towards and over the mountains, Carbondale, etc. Beautiful state.
