I'm recently retired and brand new to turning. I live in Eagle River Alaska so the primary hardwood available is birch. I purchased a Jet 1642 and a couple tools. I finished my first bowl the other day.
Welcome to AAW, Paul. For folks starting out, I highly recommend www.turnawoodbowl.com. There is a wealth of information on that site and the corresponding YouTube channel.
Thanks Kent. I have watched a number of the turnawoodbowl videos and have taken the beginning course. I'm a member of Alaska Woodturners and am taking their 101 course next weekend.
