Kids came up to stalk the wild spruce yesterday, in what has been an annual ritual for the last twenty five years. One year there was no snow, several years we've had to fight through over two feet. Remember getting a 15-footer for the church one year where loss of a snowshoe put us in waist deep.

This year was easier, with only a foot or so of well-packed and a three-four inches of powder on the trails. My daughter wants to make sure that the baby has the same good memories she has of tree hunting, so we bundled her up and went into ~30 kt gusts. Stopped at a downhill near the house and coasted her down "just once before we go in" and ended up being out another twenty minutes to laughter and requests for "more."

Never to early to begin memories of Christmas '08.

Guaranteed, she will remember. Especially if the tradition is carried on for years to come, the memories get cemented and become stronger as the years pass.
