The pull cord on this unit broke off inside the filter today when I pulled it to turn it on. It has two speeds which were controlled by pulling the cord. Actually quite surprised it hasn't worn out before. I opened the unit up and this is what I found: 

I was hoping I could by pass the switch and control the unit on and off with a remote at the power supply. I'm not very good with electrical things and would appreciate your thoughts on this matter. Thank you.
