One of the issues I face with my DIY shop built lathe is that most if not all accessories for the lathe won't actually fit.
I knocked this steady up in a hurry a while back in the middle of another project and never quite finished it and I also discovered a few flaws in the design along the way. Its made out of standard mild steel sections, no welding, all held together out of high tensile Allen Cap Head screws and old inline skate wheels.
I have upgraded the screws from M6 to M8 added heavy locking washers with nuts tack welded in place, all the slots in the steel sections were cut with a 1mm 4" grinder. The short arms holding the wheels were parts seconded off an older steady that was lying around.
If it looks a little large, its because my lathe swing is 29", although its rare for me these day go anywhere near the swing capacity436237532_7683558568378778_4509663332235564794_n.jpg441486193_7683559371712031_3229114839822075647_n.jpg

Sorry Tim I missed your post. But here it is the disc on the head stock is my indexing system it consists of three discs covering a range of 15-90 indexs, the disc on the lathe is a special 5,7,9,11. Banjo has a 12" swing, has a three step pulley system although I am going to 220v 2hp three phase variable speed with remote. The lathe sits on a pine stand with a Douglas Fir bed 12x3", pine is 6x2" . Three beds to allow the Banjo to move around as the main bed is around 30"
