Hello All,
Kirk here from Massachusetts. I've been a hobbyist woodworker for most of my life, a couple years ago, I acquired a 1970ish Delta 46-450 lathe, which needed some work as it had been sitting for at least 20 years. It now has a VFD to run the 3 phase motor along with external controls. My hobby has been to make furniture and things for the house, mainly tables, cabinets and so forth. My work is a mix of power and hand tools, typically the tailed stuff is used for roughing and the hand tools for the joinery and finish.
My machine interests seem to be drawn towards older arn, most of the tools in my garage are older Delta or delta family, which means I'm also over at OWWM to learn and share about those old tools including the lathe.
As for turning, I first turned back in my teen years, mostly lures for bluefish and striped bass on the cape, but had not turned in 30 years or so before the lathe showed up. My recent interests have lead to turning bowls from green wood, my first one was done a couple days after Christmas this year, and since then have turned about 10 of them, of a couple different woods and shapes/sizes.
My day job has me in an office, so getting shop time is always a nice diversion. Other hobbies (addictions according to my wife) include fishing and boating, fly tying, aquariums, along with running/cycling. Looking forward to engaging in conversation and sharing of ideas here in the near future - there is a list of questions I have, but quickly looking through the existing threads shows me I'm as unique as everyone else!
