I have three NIP pieces that I want to finish with some wipe on poly, problem is that after soaking them and letting them cure they still soak up the poly. Is there a step that I missed somewhere. should I use something after the oil bath and before applying the poly. Any help is greatly needed.

Buff with tripoli and then white diamond. Wipe or soak again in the oil. let the oil cure for a day or two and polish again. Keep doing it until there are no more dull spots after polishing. You can then coat it with wax or poly.

NIP finish

I saw Ron Kent use a bath of Watco, soaking each piece overnight, drying and buffing, 7 nights in a row, before long term drying and buffing. His work is magnificent. Look at his web site to see if the process is there. Can't get better than that! Philip

One or more applications of sanding sealer, near the end of the sanding sequence, can reduce subsequent soaking-in of the final finish. May, or may not, be appropriate to your final coating. YMMV.
