Wooden Face Plates
I have several wooden face plates for my PM 3520.
I have a 6 inch pine (2x6 stock) mounted at this time. I am turning some hand held dressing table mirrors. Works great with some double face tape. Yes, I could mount a block on a face plate and use the tape. Then I have a 20 buck face plate that I have to take the block off to do something else with it, or it is tied up.
I also have a 3 inch Ash that I have used to turn a lid for a bowl again with double faced tape.
You need a tap for your spindle threads and a drill bit that is smaller than your spindle. So I bought a 1 1/8 bit and a 1 1/4 tap, add a Jacobs chuck and you are set. I used my lathe.
I also have several 4 inch and a 7 inch PM faceplates for the large stuff, that I think need the holding power of screws.
John🙂
