I'd like to mount an 8" buffing wheel on my headstock - seems like I'd need a #2 MT arbor with a drawbar. Does anyone have an idea on a product that would work?
I've got my Beall buffing wheels mounted on a buffing extender which screws on the 1-1/4x8 spindle (they also make them for other spindles). The other end of the adapter accepts a 3/8 bolt (my wheels had larger holes, so I turned sleeves and added a couple fender washers). Gets the buffing wheel (and thus whatever you're buffing) away from the headstock.
Check out Ruth Niles SS Bottle Stopper site. She caries an arbor wheel setup from Carl Jacoboen for under 20 dollars. It has a mounting of one inch diameter by 8 threads per inch, goes directly on your headstock without a need for a a draw bar. Here is a link: https://nilesbottlestoppers.com/product-category/mandrels-accessories/. The arbor setup is so easy to use, convenient on/off when needed. I love it.
On one of my lathes I had several buffing wheels mounted on a steel shaft with a 2" diameter hub on one end that mounted in
the adjustable chuck, the other end had a center point recess that would butt up to the tail stock live center. This was very
quick to install and remove from the lathe while leaving the chuck mounted to the lathe.
