  1. Textured Cherry bowl

    Textured Cherry bowl

Black Cherry 6.5"d x 3.5"h Turned, textured, and painted this piece during a workshop with Elizabeth Weber at Arrowmont. Once I got home, I sanded the interior to 400 and applied a few coats of T&T DO. Can’t recommend Elizabeth’s class highly enough. Great teacher and great person 💯
  2. Bowl Texture Collage

    Bowl Texture Collage

Obviously this is not a a typical Gallery post but I had fun gathering together pictures of my carved textures on finished bowls. I used a variety of woods, dyes and acrylic paints. All were hand carved except one used a Dremel.
  3. No finer man than Bernie

    No finer man than Bernie

This piece of Desert Ironwood was a gift to me from South Shore Woodturner Bernie Feinerman. It was turned in 2008 and will be included in the Lancaster Area Woodturners show at the Amtrak Station here in PA. I'm not sure how the texture was made (by fire or weather) but I sure wanted to keep as...
  4. Saturday Morning Traditions

    Saturday Morning Traditions

Pecan, vintage spoon, acrylic, India ink. 6" x 6" x 6". I turned, carved, pyroed, and painted this bowl, and added a few special surprises to the interior (see below). The vintage spoon came from a folk artist friend I know on another platform. This was a fun project that I created for the POP...
  5. Gnome Village

    Gnome Village

After taking a class by Linda Ferber on mushrooms, I was inspired by her work of creating a little scene. I added a couple miniature gnomes to make it my own, thus creating a Gnome Village. Maple, walnut, birch with acrylic paints, bark is unknown.
  6. Spellbinder

    Spellbinder

Spellbinder. Maple, pyrography, acrylic paints. Approximately 16” in diameter by 12” deep. The body is turned and carved, and the legs are segmented. Continuing to draw and blend inspiration from the wild colors, textures, and beings that inhabit our world. I think this form ended up loosely...
  7. Eggle Eye

    Eggle Eye

I like eggs! Scrambled, fried, spiraled, carved, textured, colored. I think eggs offer one of the most pleasing forms as a canvas for wannabe artists such as myself. I always try to turn the "perfect" egg, and if it doesn't look like it turned out that way I remind myself... If you ask a...

  10. "Pitcher imPerfect"

    "Pitcher imPerfect"

I still have a thing for handled, lidded, spouted pouring vessels. After seeing the initial turned carved shape Karen thought that black and white might be a good palette but my proclivity toward using lesser timber first (another story, another time) took that option from the list. No, this...
  11. Fruit défendu

    Fruit défendu

Hi everyone, “Forbidden fruit” is a bunch of grapes turned, sculpted and finally textured in elm wood, hidden in a cage which is resting on a steel base. On this piece I wanted to work differently by using only rotary jewelry rasps. Pigment finishes. Diameter 13,9' x 2' (354 x 52 mm. ) Good day...

  15. Pseudopalmus Cherry Bowl

    Pseudopalmus Cherry Bowl

The name is a bit of nonsense, but fun. "Fake palm" because to me the texture has the appearance of an endgrain Black Palm bowl. However, the wood is Black Cherry. I created the texture on the exterior with a sharp woodburning tip applied mostly in an upward stabbing motion. I also added a lot...
