Ornate sphere, with walls at about 3/16" thick. Made from a single piece of Bradford Pear (well, two pieces– the cap was parted off and then glued back in after hollowing). After piercing, it was gilded in a metal reactive gold and placed in a Box Elder burl, hopefully to look like a relic...
Black Locust Rim and Bowl. Pecan inside coupling. Rim pierced with NSK Proto II and Engraved by laser. Lacquer finish. 9 1/2" across, 4 5/" bowl mouth 1 1/2" high.
End grain turned bleached maple, pattern drawn free hand, and made permanent with a woodburning tip. The negative space and removal of the rim was done using the NSK Presto, followed by a LOT of careful hand sanding of all those edges. Color is pearlized blue acrylic, hand-painted.
