The wood is Honey Locust. The size is 6" dia x 9" tall. It's finished with Danish oil and buffed with white diamond and carnauba wax. Nothing else was added to the finish of this piece.
This hollow form was turned from green wood, with a drilled rim, and mahogany finial. The overall size is 9"H x 10"D. Finish is 50/50 lacquer/thinner to seal, and six coats lacquer, then beall buffed. It has finally dried oval.
I haven't posted anything here in a bit, so here ya go.
This is my best piece so far IMHO. It's only my 2nd (succesful) HF. Finish is Deft Gloss Laquer, no wax yet. Measures 11" x 8" x 3/16, and the opening is 2.5" (all approx. I forgot to measure, will edit). Not really my...
This is a little hollow form I turned from some black locust burl that's just gorgeous with golds and browns and cream colors, I don't think my photos do it justice. Turned green to finish, it's about 4" high, 2"dia., and less than 1/8" thin. Collar is Bois de Rose. Finished with...
This is a hollow form I turned from a piece of cherry. I didn't like the grain on it so I coated it with black gesso and then burnished the ridges to make them shiny which makes a nice contrast to the matte finish in the recesses. I couldn't get a good detail photo, but it makes a nice textured...
This is a poplar hollow form which has been dyed with black, red, orange and yellow aniline dyes. It measures about 10 1/4 inches tall by 7 1/8 inches in diameter.
Another Mothers Day gift for Grandma ... A round bottom Box Elder hollow form with a little burl and some beautiful bright reds. It sure is some pretty wood.
Its a little one ... 2 1/2" tall by 4 1/2" wide.
I went with a little wider opening on this one, I think it fits the...
This is an ash hollow form which has been fluted, dyed, sandblasted, and treated with black patinating wax to accent the grain. It measures about 8 7/8 inches in height.
A couple of small Hollow Forms turned from the scrap pieces of Box Elder burl. The scrap pieces were to nice to burn and I like turning small stuff, its quick and easy. Love that burl grain!
Rough turned green and then nuked to dry them out. Around 3 inches tall and a wall thickness of a...
The piece on the left is Bloodwood and was turned, carved and the tail burned with a fine tip woodburning pen. The piece on the right is Bubinga and was turned and carved. The tails on both pieces were carved off the lathe. Both pieces are about 1.75" dia x 6" long. Danish oil, 0000...
This is black cherry, probably crotch wood. There's some beautiful flame and curl in the wood. It's about 5" x 5". Finished with Formby's Tung Oil finish, then buffed and hand-rubbed with Renaissance Wax.
