This was the 4th HF turned from the17 bowl blank intended for coring. The checking had already developed quite deeply, precluding coring bowls from it. The blank was cut into quadrants and a natural edge hollow form turned from each. This HF is 5 x 4 and 3/16 thick. The bottom is a little...
Spalted sycamore hollow form. 13-1/2 tall x 5-1/2 wide. Turned from wood salvaged from a local park tree, though the spalting is the accidental result from the bolt being waxed and stored upright on my garage floor. Not sure about the orange spots, but they're pretty cool.
This piece was turned green from a small Cherry branch burl. As you can see, the piece has moved a bit. The size is 8.5" dia x 5.5" tall. Finished with my oil mix and buffed with tripoli and carnauba wax.
This is the next piece in my series inspired by Hubble Telescope images. The hollow form is turned from end grain maple and measures 5.5 inches tall by 4.5 wide. It is finished with aniline dyes and wipe-on poly. All comments, especially critiques, are welcomed and appreciated.

This hollow form is turned from cherry. The growth rings are interesting and remind me of weathered stone. It measures 8 inches by 6 inches and is finished with Waterlox buffed satin with 0000 steel wool. All comments and critiques are welcomed and appreciated.
Cherry Burl Hollow Form. This piece is around 12". It was hollowed thru the bark opening. Total thickness is around 3/32" It was turned start to finish green, had been air drying for 1 year.
Turned from end grain walnut, this hollow form vessel measures 6.75 inches by 4 inches and is finished with wipe-on poly. The finish was then buffed with 0000 steel wool to a satin finish.

The back side view of the hollow form vase turned from end grain maple crotch. It measures 7.25 inches by 3.5 inches and is finished with aniline dyes and spray lacquer. I was trying to emulate images from the Hubble telescope capturing a nebula.

This hollow form is turned from end grain, spalted maple. It came extremely close to the burn pile several times. It was really punky, has worm holes, and moldy. The tear out was nearly impossible to overcome. It measures 7.5 inches by 5.75 inches and is finished with wipe-on poly.

This hollow form is turned from end grain, European White Poplar. It measures 7.25 inches by 4.5 inches and is finished with Waterlox. The wood and its grain is a little unusual, it almost appears laminated. All comments, especially critiques, are welcomed and appreciated.
I decided to gather up some scraps I'd been saving and go at them. They made good gifts during the holidays. The sizes range from the 2-1/2" x 1-1/2" to 3-1/2" x 6". The woods are Red Oak, Aromatic Cedar, Cocobolo, Olive, Holly, Red Mallee and the one in the front right is...
This pretty wood comes from the prunings of a large old Sugar Maple tree covered with burls. This piece is 7" dia x 10" tall and was turned from green
wood. The piece tells the story of this tree from the heartwood to bark. It's finished with my oil mix and buffed with tripoli and...
This is my latest attempt at a hollow form. I have poured through hundreds of images trying to learn from others. This was inspired by some of Ed Koenig's beautiful pieces. It is turned from end grain walnut, measures 7.5 inches by 4.75" and is finished with Waterlox.

This hollow form reminds me of what might have been if a vase was made from the wood Moses brought down from the mountain top. I had a difficult time capturing the subtleties of the different colors in the flamed wood grain. It measures 4.5 inches by 7 inches and is turned from end grain maple...
