My other line of convergent evolution turning into a crab. A stool with multi-axis turned legs. Next one I will try to make the legs even more crab like and maybe the top as well.
Ash, approximately 18" tall and 12" wide in the seat.
Small ash lidded box. Approximately 1.5 inches wide and 2.5 inches tall (don't have it anymore to check actual dimensions). Torched and Danish oil outside, acrylic paint inside.
Ash was dyed Transtint Bright Red, scorched, wire wheeled and re-dyed, two shared of gold gilding wax. Pear Off-Axis Tree cut on three axis with different skews, dyed green then some black dye. Silver and Green gilding wax dabbled on tree and ground to simulate snow. All topped with an acrylic...
Burnt with a torch, wire bushed, ebonized, embellishing wax, rattle can glaze. Turned from an ash crotch found in a firewood pile. There were lots of cracks and repairs needed after drying making this particular piece of wood a candidate for the rough treatment above. Bottom view

I've been watching Glenn Lucas on Instagram where he's been working with rippled ash. After searching online, I assumed this wood pattern only occurs overseas. Lo and behold I picked up a roadside ash log last week and roughed out then cored another bowl. To my surprise I found a rippled ash...
This is my next attempt at a hollow form, my largest so far, using this piece of end grain black ash. My intention was to feature the small growth rings around the wide sapwood display. This tree displays 107 years in growth rings, less than .10 per year. Overall 8"x6". The opening is...
Here is the latest piece in my Open Spiral series. This is a commissioned work and the buyer has been calling frequently, so I named the piece Desire. The body of the piece was created during the filming of my instructional DVD showcasing my Cable Driven Router System.
Size is 19 tall x 13...
My wife absolutely fell in love with this piece. When I told her I named it Antigua, she informed me I had better not sell this one. I am pleased with the coloration; it brings back fond memories of the Caribbean waters of Antigua where we honeymooned. The hollow form vase is turned from end...
This hollow form is turned from end grain, fiddle back ash. It measures 7 tall by 4.5 wide. It is finished with aniline dyes, spray lacquer, and Briwax tinted black with MIXOL.
Ash Lidded Bowl with Walnut Finial and Abalone Bead Decoration inside lid. 5 1/2" w x 3" h with 2" finial. This bowl was a real design change. The original piece had a couple of wormholes show up at the last minute and I had to cut the whole middle section out so made it lidded...
This is one of 3 hollow pieces turned within 24 hrs of taking a mountain ash down in my front yard that was almost dead. Piece is 4 in. wide and slightly less high and exhibits spalting. Finish is 3 coats of tung oil .
