Tops for Charity (view of bottoms)

Maple tops – textured and colored with acrylics, inks, iridescent, interference, and metallic paints.

Every year the New Jersey Woodturners club members make tops and the club sells them at events throughout the year. All proceeds go to the Children’s Specialized Hospital.
This is my first batch of tops, and I just finished a second batch a few days ago. I need more wood!
Beautiful Tom. Nice variety of colors and textures! Do you have a favorite texturing tool (or two)?
Thanks, John. I usually use a combination of both a chatter tool and a small knurling tool (1/4"wide). Sometimes I'll only use one tool but use it in different ways to create different patterns on the same top.

Beautiful decorating. Would love to see what you did with the tops. These must sell really well. What a great gift you are giving to people who buy them and than for the children's hospital that benefits from your thoughtful gift.

I am fairly new to woodturning. I have never heard of a chatter tool and a small knurling tool. I tried to look it up on the internet but just am more confused. Anyone have a good explanation about these tools or a good website to learn about them and eliminate the confusion?
Thanks.

Check out "texturing tools" on all the usual woodturning tool sellers sites. Here are a few links - some with videos.
