Tongan Salad
This Ancient kauri Bowl was one of my entries into domestic ware at the Royal Easter show
I have a new toy an addition to my Woodcut Bowl saver so I can really save some big bowls .The new cutter enables a starting bowl 380mm to be saved .That is what I got out of the inside of this baby
Which is 420mm Diameter and 190mm deep
The outside of the bowl is beaded and then with a engineers knurling tool I managed to cut in a rope like pattern. The design was burnt in with a Scalpel blade in my Vaporiser with paua dots added every second division
To keep the theme flowing he scoop had the same treatment the foot also has been branded and Paua added .
This piece sold 5 minutes into the opening of the show so I must have had something right
Sanded with Paraffin oil to bring out the chatoyance then Lacquered
