The Sun And The Moon

Black Oak, pyro'd, carved, and painted to mimic mosaic tile. Though, it might look a bit more like stained glass. In any case, this was a fun and time consuming project that gets me excited for the next version. Interior finished with hemp oil, exterior finished with satin lacquer. 7.25"d x 3.5"h.
Simply spectacular Michael! Are the interstices between the tiles painted or just burned? I suspect painted. Before or after painting the colors? Youā€™re quite an artist.

Thanks a lot everyone!!

@Kent Reisdorph it is indeed! It was naked then haha.

@Lou Jacobs thanks Lou! Yes, they are painted. After I burned the pattern with a skew tip, I carved the area between the tiles with a rotary burr. Then I painted the exterior black prior to adding the color. After coloring, I went back with black paint and fixed any spillovers. One of the reasons I burned prior to painting is to create a little channel to catch the colored paint.

Okay, I will say it....you are segmenter!! What is up with the faux look, haha!! I love your effort and coloring. This should be front and center to brighten anyone's day that happens to walk by it!! Excellent effort Michael!!

Wow! What a great design and I love the colors you chose. I was off line for a bit so I missed when you posted it. Nice surprise creatures on the bottom. Well done.
