SPALTED DOGWOOD-KATRINA SALVAGED

THIS WAS A CROTCH IN A DOGWOOD AT MY FOLKS HOUSE, KATRINA KILLED IT AND ABOUT A YEAR AND A HALF LATER AS IT WAS BEING CUT DOWN I NOTICED THAT IT HAD SPALTED. I DIDN'T KNOW THAT WOOD COULD SPALT WHILE STILL STANDING. THIS PIECE WAS 7 FEET UP AND IS ABOUT 10 X 7 X 4.
I love it Mike. Great find. I guess there were a few silver linings from Katrina after all. What's your location? I was in the path of katrina also in Baton Rouge. Found a few silver linings myself.

Thanks Leo, this was located outside Picayune MS. I have other wood from the tree but most of the spalted area had rotted. This had been a beautiful Dogwood, around 12" wide at the base. I guess some good came out of Katrina, but it will never be enough. I was there when it was cut and able to keep the FEMA contractor from taking it, they tried!
I hope your "silver lining" is as beautiful a piece of wood as this piece.
