Serial 23033 Model UWDT0715000 Walnut Cremation Urn

This piece was rough turned in 2011 and though it is flawless, that is no drying checks, it somehow escaped the finish turning until now.
The lid is threaded at 3.25" - 8 and was turned from a Celtic Cross glue up that I had laying around just waiting for the right project. The finish is 3 applications of DO. The process was featured in the thread "What's on your lathe". The item measures 7" diameter X 15" high X internal volume (not measured yet).
Very beautiful. I have a newbie question. Are they sealed after the remains are put in or what keeps a curious kid/person from unscrewing it?

A very nice urn, Don. Love the Celtic Cross ball on the finial. IMHO, you could lose the light wood pieces laminated to the collar ... it would improve the visual flow of the form and not be a distraction. My 2¢ and only worth what you paid for it! ;)

The light wood pieces were glued onto the Celtic Cross glue up to make it wide enough to cover the opening so I could have just used more walnut for that purpose.
Thanks to you and the others for the words of praise.

I’m curious to know the internal volume…

Tim
I just used my highly accurate bird seed technique to measure the volume:
3 bean cans full with a calculated volume of 75 cubic inches each.
1 tomato sauce can with a calculated volume of 56 cubic Inches.
About 16 cubic inches too much.
Total 265cubic inches or if you are in a country with more the sensible metric system 4,342.55 CM3
