Serial 22026 Model BMVS0501 Maple pie segmented Bowl

This shallow bowl is part of an experiment to make a pie segmented piece that would stay together in the middle. The blank was started in October of 2021 by first cutting a 1" thick board into 8 pie segments and gluing in stages till I had a complete circle. The blank was then sliced into 3 pieces and glued back together with the joints staggered. The blank was stored in my heated shop until March when I turned this bowl. The center has 2 layers that have been thinned from the top and the bottom and so far it looks like it may work..
I have done the same experiment. Mine is a hand mirror so only 5 1/2" in diameter. I glued up a 3/4" pie shaped segment and then re sawed it into 3 pieces. I rotated the pieces so no glue joints aligned and the layers together. That was over 2 years ago and I have subjected it to a damp cool environment and hot dry area repeatedly over the years and it's still good.

Sounds like we are on the right track.

You’ve basically brick laid your pie shaped base; an excellent solution to the wood movement issue!
